The application of AlkaFlex and Wellart is similar to other intra-articular injection methods. They are most commonly used for the knee joint but can also be applied to other joints when necessary.

The procedure must be performed by a qualified healthcare professional. It begins with thoroughly cleaning the injection site. Once the area is sterilized, the needle is carefully inserted, and its position within the intra-articular space is confirmed. If there is excess synovial fluid, it is first aspirated and examined for signs of inflammation.

If no infection or inflammation is present, the needle is left in place, and AlkaFlex or Wellart is injected into the joint cavity. The use of a local anesthetic before the procedure is safe and does not pose a risk to the patient.

After the injection, patients are advised to avoid heavy physical activity for 2–3 days to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment and reduce the risk of complications. Depending on the formulation and concentration used, the therapeutic effect of AlkaFlex or Wellart can last between 3 and 12 months.

AlkaFlex and Wellart Cross-Linked Formulation

Some patients may experience temporary pain or pressure for 2–3 days after the injection. The cross-linked formulation of AlkaFlex and Wellart, in which hyaluronic acid molecules are chemically cross-linked, helps reduce these complaints and remains in the joint for a longer period, providing continuous therapeutic benefits.

Thanks to their smooth, elastic structure, AlkaFlex and Wellart adapt to joint movement, concentrating in targeted areas and offering a more comfortable treatment experience. When the joint is at rest, the fluid remains soft; during movement, it becomes more viscous, acting as a cushion within the joint. This property helps prevent wear and supports joint health.

The molecular weight of AlkaFlex Cross-Linked and Wellart Cross-Linked is between 5 and 6 MDa, closely resembling the properties of healthy natural synovial fluid.
